The Freedom Writer’s Diary.

Freedomdiarybookcover“Freedom writers have a dream.”

This book, with its 151 narrators, is extremely eye-opening. The heavy focus is on minority groups in society but also the idea of needing to ‘fit-in’ to a certain group. This makes this book incredibly easy to relate to for all readers. The pressure of society are heavily felt by the youngsters in the novel and, although they believe their voices are insignificant and nobody would want to listen, they feel determined to break stereotypes and open the eyes of society, making their everyday struggles publicly known.

This is a truly magnificent work of art which shows that no matter how small and unworthy you think you are, if you speak out, you can change the world.

The Man who Broke into Auschwitz

“There wasn’t much I could do but I was tormented by the need to know; to see what I could.”the-man-who-broke-into-auschwitz

We hear many accounts of the Holocaust and World War II however, it is extremely rare to hear of a British POW breaking into a concentration camp and risking his life through a desire to now how innocent people were being treated. Denis Avey did just that. He courageously swapped roles with Hans, a Jewish prisoner in Auschwitz III, and spent 2 nights overall in what can only be described as a ‘living hell’.

This truly amazing account shows the hardships that the prisoners had to face for years and also the torture of memories once the awful camps were liberated.
