DCT 2022 Exam Predictions
Is it just me or does the Ethics exam seem a long time ago? For many of you this will be your last exam and I am sure by now your brains feel like they have run a marathon (weeks of mental endurance). But we cannot limp to the finish line, we must end on a high! This means one last push for tomorrow’s exam.
Now logically since the advanced information specified four topics, it would make sense to be asked one question from each area, so this is what I have focused on in my predictions.
Knowledge of God- Natural and Revealed Theology:
I am hoping you will be asked “Natural knowledge of God is the same as revealed knowledge of God.” Discuss as this is a really nice question in which you an fully explore all key themes of the topic. However I fear the question might be more specific on God’s Grace, the Fall or use of reason. This one is a hard one to predict but I am guessing the wording of the question might be tricky (it has been in the past).
Person of Jesus:
A number of questions have been asked on this topic over the years but I am leaning towards Jesus’ relationship to God – special, truly unique and Jesus’ awareness of his Divine nature. So a question such as ‘Jesus’ relationship with God was truly unique.’ Discuss or ‘To what extent did Jesus think he was Divine.’ Also make sure you know the Biblical references mentioned on the spec as they might ask a question that specifically mentions one.

Before I channel my inner psychic, I have just one word about the Philosophy exam…ANSELM!!! Out of all the questions you could have been asked for Nature of God, you got what I class to be one of the hardest questions. Not only is it a very tricky topic as a whole, Anselm is a very small part of it. What we can learn from this is OCR are still testing and challenging you…we need to be ready tomorrow!
Now my predictions are not particularly accurate (I only got Aristotle’s Prime Mover totally right in the last exam) but I do not share my predictions with you to be correct. I share them with you to give you an idea of what to expect or what to be prepared for. And at least I got the topic areas right. So here goes…
Topic areas for your four questions I think will be: Meta, Conscience, Euthanasia and Sex. I doubt they will double up questions (ask you more than one question on the same topic) but it is possible, so you need to know all topics just in case.
When it comes to Meta Ethics:-
- There has never been a question on Ethical Naturalism so I think you will either get a question that clearly mentions EN e.g “‘Good’ is best explained through naturalism” or more likely yet “Ethical terms such as good, bad, right and wrong have an objective factual basis that makes them true or false in describing something” – as this question allows you to explore both EN and I.
- They may also keep the Q more open e.g “What is meant by the word ‘good’ is the defining question in the study of ethics” -which is open to all three approaches.
Conscience is the topic that worries me! Why…because it is an easier topic with only Aquinas and Freud, yet the questions they could ask might be seriously tricky (and after the Anselm Q in Philosophy I think you need to be ready). You might be lucky and get a nice question on either Aquinas or Freud but unfortunately these have both been asked before. It is possible to be set the same question again but you also need to be prepared for a COMPARE q!! The areas that have not been asked are a comparison between Aquinas and Freud on:
- Guilt,
- Presence or absence of God,
- Process of moral decision making.
My money is on one of these three comparison areas, with number three being the nicest.
I think your question on Euthanasia will be a general question and not specify NL or SE such as:
- “The religious concept of sanctity of life has no meaning in the 21t century.” Discuss
- A comparison between SOL and QOL
- “There is no moral difference between medical intervention to end a patient’s life and medical non intervention to end a patient’s life.” Discuss
Each of these questions you could bring in NL and/or SE to develop your evaluation and analysis but you must make sure you stay focused on the specific question throughout and any wider points you bring in, you must make it clear how and why they are relevant to your LOA.
There are a number of questions you could get asked within Sex Ethics. I think they will keep the question open on the theories but specific on the theme (e.g homosexuality, pre or extra). My advice for this one is check out the blog on past questions specifically the gaps (question areas never asked before) for sex ethics and make sure you have enough material to answer those questions.

Philosophy 2022 Exam Predictions
It is impossible to accurately predict exam questions due to the magnitude of questions the exam board could ask. They may ask questions that have previously featured in the first or second year exams (even the exact same wording could be used) or they may ask questions on areas of the specification never asked before. All we know is that certain topics have been removed for the 2022 exams which narrows the field of possible questions somewhat. With this in mind, these predictions are just my own musings and may be completely wrong, so you must still revise all areas on the AI. But if I was going to write an exam paper this is how I would do it…
- Aristotle’s PM e.g “Critically assess the Prime Mover and how it connects to the final cause.” or a comparison question between Plato and Aristotle either on FOG vs PM or reason vs senses e.g “Plato’s reliance on reason explains the nature of reality more clearly than Aristotle’s use of senses.” Discuss.
- A lot of questions have been asked over the years on Teleological and Cosmological so most avenues have already been covered. What has not been asked before is “An a posteriori approach is more persuasive than an a priori approach for proving God’s existence.” This however seems quite a mean question as you would have to know Ontological (a priori) and this was removed from this year’s exam. To be on the safe side I would still revise Ontological briefly. A more likely question I think would be “The logical fallacies in the *Teleological/ Cosmological* argument cannot be overcome. ” Discuss
- “To what extent does Hick’s reworking of the Irenaean theodicy give purpose to natural evil in enabling human beings to reach divine likeness.”
- Only one question has been asked over the years on the Nature of God therefore it could be on one of a number of areas: omnipotence, omniscience or omnibenevolence.
As you can see with my predictions, I think there is going to be one question on: Plato and/or Aristotle, Teleological and/or Cosmological, Problem of Evil and Nature of God. However once again I may be completely wrong and you may have no question on Nature of God (for example) and one question on Teleological and one question on Cosmological.
